Opening Day Success


Paul Wydom struck out 10 batters as the righty led Al Thomas A’s past McKay Club Beacons 10-2 on Monday. Wydom surrendered three hits and one run over six innings while walking two. ATBC Rookie Paul McLaughlin appeared in relief for Al Thomas A’s and closed out the game, striking out 1 batter.


Al Thomas got on the board in the top of the second inning after Trevor Derochea doubled, and Shane Rhuda, Jack Adgate and Sam Browning singled, each scoring one run.


Al Thomas added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Derochea homered to center field with a 380+ foot shot, and Browning singled, each scoring two runs.


Al Thomas scored one run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run to left field by Captain Jake Beane.


ATBC amassed 13 hits in the game. Derochea seized on their opportunities, leading Al Thomas with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. Derochea also had a put out at first base from right field. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Derochea, Browning, and Tim Cooper each collected two hits for Al Thomas A’s.


ATBC had patience at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Matt Rothermel and Rhuda led the team with two bases on balls each.



Next game: Tuesday, 5/21/24 8:00pm vs The BASE at East Boston Memorial Stadium with Devin 'Leg Day' Perlman on the bump.
