Al Thomas Back to the Finals for Third Year in a Row

The Al Thomas Athletics have advanced to the Yawkey Baseball League Finals for the third year in a row. Al Thomas took on the white hot East Boston Knights in the first round of the playoffs in a best of 5 series.


Game 1 took place on Friday 8/4 with Paul Wydom throwing a complete game, allowing 4 hits, 4 runs with 1 earned and 8 strike outs. Wydom had 102 pitches with 75 strikes on the game. Zach Hatfield and Jake Beane both had 2 hits on the night to win 6-4 in game 1.


Game 2 took place Saturday 8/5 at Cunningham Park and ATBC took command from the beginning. Devin Perlman went the distance tallying 12 Ks, 1 walk with 5 hits to get the win. Jake Beane had 4 hits and 4 runs on the game, Spencer Cullen had a breakout performance with 4 hits, 4 RBIs and 6 total bases. Cam Plank hit an absolute bomb to centerfield to put the game away. Al Thomas won the game 15-0 to go up 2-0 on the series.


Game 3 took place on Sunday 8/6 at East Boston Memorial Stadium and the crowd was in attendance for the EBK funeral last night. It was a pitchers duel all night. Matt Rothermel had 7 no-hit innings and eventually surrendered his first and second hits in the bottom of the 8th inning. Rothermel had 9 strike outs and 2 walks through 8 innings with 0 runs against. Jake Beane had another 2 hits and scored the only run for both teams. Paul Wydom came in to the game in the bottom of the 9th inning to eventually close the game out stranding East Boston with bases loaded and a chance to win the game.


The finals will kick off Friday, 8/11 vs. the winner of the Brighton Braves and Brighton Black Sox series. The Black Sox currently lead the series 2-1.
